Our Staff

Kyoshi Shapero, a 7th degree Black Belt in Ryu Kyu Kempo and a 1st degree Black Belt in Modern Arnis(Filippino Stick and Knife Fighting), has been been teaching martial arts for over 35 years in Media. He has dedicated himself to building a school based on a curriculum that embraces a very dynamic and holistic philosophy.

Sensei McDermott

Sensei McDermott holds a fifth degree black belt in Ryukyu Kempo and 1st degree Black Belt in Modern Arnis. Sensei teaches both Adult and Elite Junior Leadership classes. He was named nine times to Who's Who in American Education during his 35-year public school teaching career.

Jackie Kelleher has been a member of the Bodyworks Karate community as both parent and student for 15 years and holds a 3rd degree black belt. A mother of four, she enjoys sharing her martial arts experience with her children. Outside of her life at Bodyworks, she has spent the past 20 years supporting women and families as a speaker, trainer and author.

Nick attends Swarthmore College as a member of the Class of 2021, and holds a second degree black belt in Israeli Fight System. He began his martial arts career in 2010 in the Junior Elite program at Bodyworks, under the instruction of Kyoshi Shapero and Sensei McDermott. He now teaches the Junior Leadership and Junior Elite classes. In the fall he is a goalkeeper on the Swarthmore College Men’s Soccer team.
